Downside Abbey Church of St Gregory

The church serves the senior Roman Catholic Benedictine community in Britain and was built on an appropriately magnificent scale between 1872 and 1925. There are plans to complete the west end of the nave.

The community was founded at Douai in France between 1605 and 1607 and after various homes the decision was made to settle the monastery and school here at Downside in 1816.

ST 653 508, on the W side of the A367 signposted in the centre of the village.
